Senior Telecom Engineer – Offshore FEED Project

About the role

The Senior Telecom Engineer will lead telecommunications engineering activities for an offshore Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) project in the oil & gas sector. Based in Abu Dhabi, the role works primarily from the client office and provides technical leadership for all offshore telecom systems throughout the FEED phase.

Key responsibilities

• Develop telecom design philosophies, basis of design documents, system architecture and detailed FEED deliverables such as block diagrams, topology diagrams and equipment lists.
• Design and specify offshore communication systems including radio, VHF/UHF, TETRA, PAGA, CCTV, access control, VoIP, LAN/WAN, structured cabling, fiber‑optic and wireless networks.
• Conduct coverage studies, radio‑propagation analysis, fiber link‑budget calculations and support safety reviews (SIL, HAZOP, HAZID).
• Prepare technical requisitions, evaluate vendor proposals, conduct bid evaluations and ensure vendor compliance with project specifications.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, safety) and interface with client representatives, EPC contractors and classification societies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of telecom engineering experience, including at least 5 years on offshore oil & gas FEED or EPC projects.
• Proven experience on offshore platforms, FPSOs or offshore substations and familiarity with relevant standards (IEC, ITU, NORSOK, SOLAS, NFPA).

Required skills

• Telecom system design (radio, PAGA, CCTV, access control, VoIP, fiber‑optic, LAN/WAN, SDH/IP/MPLS, LTE/Private LTE).
• Network engineering concepts: TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, QoS, routing & switching, industrial Ethernet.
• Engineering tools: AutoCAD, SmartPlant, AVEVA Engineering, telecom design and network simulation software.
• Vendor management, technical bid evaluation and compliance with offshore safety regulations.
