Skipper – Pilot and Work Boat Operations

About the role

The Skipper is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of company vessels such as pilot boats, speed boats or work boats. The role includes transporting pilots and personnel, supporting offshore operations and responding to emergencies while maintaining high standards of safety and customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Navigate and operate assigned marine craft, ensuring compliance with COLREGs, port regulations and company policies.
• Conduct pre‑departure checks, maintain vessel logs, fuel records and ensure all safety equipment is serviceable.
• Supervise crew, coordinate with VTS and Marine Operations, and oversee routine vessel inspections and basic maintenance.
• Lead safety briefings, emergency drills and support search‑and‑rescue, man‑overboard and pollution response activities.

Required profile

• Secondary School Certificate (or equivalent) with valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates.
• Minimum 2 years of seagoing experience as a Skipper or in a similar marine operational role.
• Proven ability to safely transport pilots, personnel and visitors in varying weather and port conditions.
• Basic communication skills in English; Arabic is an advantage.

Required skills

• STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) certification.
• Proficiency with navigational equipment: GPS, radar, echo sounder, AIS and chart work.
• Knowledge of International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) and local port regulations.
• Experience in vessel handling, routine inspections and basic maintenance reporting.
