Software Architect for Autonomous Ground Robotics

About the role

SteerAI is seeking an experienced Software Architect to lead the design and development of software solutions for autonomous ground robotics systems. You will define the technical architecture of the autonomy stack, ensure seamless integration of subsystems, and drive innovation for high‑performance, real‑time operations.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop modular, scalable software architecture for autonomous ground robots.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor the development team, and enforce best practices for code quality and security.
• Lead integration of perception, navigation, control, and decision‑making modules.
• Select and implement suitable software frameworks and middleware (e.g., ROS/ROS2).
• Collaborate with algorithm engineers to deploy machine‑learning, perception, and sensor‑fusion algorithms.
• Create prototypes and proof‑of‑concept applications to validate new architectures.
• Ensure real‑time performance and optimize resource‑intensive components.
• Document architecture, design specifications, and interface definitions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics or Mechanical Engineering.
• 8+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in software architecture roles, preferably in ground robotics or autonomous systems.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Experience with ROS/ROS2 and other robotics software frameworks.
• Knowledge of real‑time systems, distributed computing, and middleware.
• Expertise in perception, sensor fusion, SLAM, motion planning, and control algorithms.
• Familiarity with edge computing and GPU programming for robotic platforms.
