Specialist Physician – Neonatology

About the role

The Specialist Physician in Neonatology provides high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care to newborns and supports the Consultant Physician in delivering clinical excellence within the Division.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat neonatal patients under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, following best‑practice standards.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients regularly, and document clinical information promptly.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff, sharing responsibility for the care they provide.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, liaise with other specialties, and coordinate referrals from emergency, primary care, and other departments.
• Ensure appropriate utilization of hospital resources and compliance with admission, discharge, and procedural protocols.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Communicate clinical information to patients, families, and the care team in a timely manner.
• Support departmental initiatives, performance management, incident reporting, and other administrative duties as requested.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with a specialization in neonatology.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver evidence‑based, patient‑centred care.
• Experience supervising and training junior medical staff.
• Willingness to participate in rotational on‑call duties.
• Strong collaborative attitude and commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork.
