Staff Midwife

About the role

The Staff Midwife is a pivotal member of the interdisciplinary team at Tawam Hospital, delivering culturally sensitive, patient‑centred care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. The role combines clinical expertise with leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide routine and comprehensive care for women with uncomplicated pregnancies, including risk assessment and early identification of complications.
• Supervise, mentor and precept junior staff, practical midwives, student nurses and new hires to ensure safe, effective patient care.
• Collaborate with physicians and the broader interdisciplinary team, promoting clear communication and mutual respect.
• Participate in performance reviews, organisational change initiatives, risk management and quality‑improvement projects.
• Advocate for patient dignity, rights and breastfeeding initiatives in line with ‘baby‑friendly’ policies.
• Utilise evidence‑based practice, coordinate care from first contact through discharge, and document assessments, plans and evaluations according to hospital policies.
