Staff Nurse - Stroke Unit

About the role

SSMC is hiring a Staff Nurse for its stroke unit in Abu Dhabi. The nurse coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education and transitions of care, while supporting professional nursing practice across the continuum of care and adhering to the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients comprehensively (physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs), interpret the data to identify diagnoses and issues, prioritize risks and document findings.
• Develop individualized plans of care with patients, families and the healthcare team, using evidence-based practice and measurable outcomes, and modify them as the patient's condition changes.
• Implement the plan of care, perform treatments and procedures, administer medications according to policy, communicate across care levels and document everything in the patient's record.
• Teach patients and families, use teach-back methods, evaluate their understanding and provide clinical handovers and care rounds updates.
• Evaluate progress toward outcomes, revise the plan of care and share evidence-based findings with the team.
• Integrate research into practice, participate in performance improvement projects and supervise practical nurses, junior staff and student nurses.
• Act as a role model, advocate for patients, speak up on safety and quality issues and respond to emergencies according to organizational policy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, or a nursing degree of at least two years' duration plus registration as a registered nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia.
• At least 2 years of clinical experience after qualification in an appropriate setting (waived for UAE nursing college/university graduates who have completed their internship).
