Structural Inspector

About the role

Zutari, an engineering practice with over 90 years of heritage across Africa and the Middle East, is hiring a Structural Inspector in Dubai. The inspector monitors, supervises and inspects structural works on infrastructure and building projects, with a strong focus on RTA and Dubai Municipality standards, approved drawings and local and international codes. The role gives on-site technical oversight so that foundations, substructures, superstructures, reinforced concrete and structural steel works meet quality, safety and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and supervise structural construction, from excavation readiness, blinding concrete and foundation works to columns, slabs, beams, staircases and precast elements, and to structural steel erection, bolt tightening and welding inspections.
• Check formwork, reinforcement (bar size, spacing, laps, cover), embedded items and concrete placement, vibration, curing and protection.
• Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, RTA/DM requirements and method statements, ITPs and risk assessments.
• Review and process Inspection Requests, review material submittals and support shop drawing reviews.
• Witness and verify tests such as concrete sampling, slump tests, cube/crushing tests, reinforcement certificates, welding inspections, NDT reports and load testing, and keep daily inspection reports, logs, checklists and photos.
• Record and report non-conformances, follow up rectification and support snagging, as-built verification and handover.
• Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, subcontractors and authorities, escalate risks early and enforce HSE requirements, stopping unsafe work.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience in structural inspection on infrastructure and/or building projects in the UAE.
• Proven experience on RTA and/or Dubai Municipality projects and familiarity with their standards and approval processes.
• Strong communication and technical reporting skills in English; Arabic is an advantage.
• Experience with international consulting/engineering firms is preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel, foundations and substructure works, and formwork, reinforcement and casting.
• Familiarity with standards such as ACI, BS, ASTM, AISC, Eurocodes or equivalents.
• Proficiency in MS Office and digital site inspection/reporting tools.
