Student Counsellor - Immediate Start

About the role

GEMS Education is looking for a Student Counsellor to provide social and emotional support to students, with an immediate start. The role covers individual and group counselling, prevention and responsive services, collaboration with teachers and parents, and evaluation of programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual counselling sessions for personal, social and emotional issues, run group sessions to build social skills and peer relationships, and offer crisis intervention.
• Develop and run programmes on emotional health, self-awareness and resilience, and facilitate workshops on conflict resolution, stress management and positive behaviour.
• Maintain anti-bullying programmes and a safe school environment, and develop and monitor behavioural intervention plans.
• Coordinate with external mental health professionals and agencies, and work with teachers and parents on student wellbeing.
• Keep accurate, confidential records of sessions and interventions, evaluate programme effectiveness and stay up to date with best practice.

Required profile

• Degree in education, psychology or counselling.
• At least one year of school-based experience, or previous experience working with schools and students in a counselling capacity.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy, able to build trust with students and work with diverse groups.
• Understanding of confidentiality and discretion.

Required skills

• Knowledge of counselling theories, techniques and practices related to social and emotional development.
• Ability to train teachers on social-emotional learning and student behaviour.
