Team Leader, Contracts

About the role

This role supervises and controls the tendering, implementation and administration of contracts, working with users to secure services on favourable terms and at optimal cost. It covers routine and complex tender documents, post-contract administration (amendments, variation orders, claims and disputes), and proposes improvements to procurement policies and procedures. The incumbent also supports the Department Manager, deputizes for him or her when absent, and leads the team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Statement of Requirements, review end-user needs, recommend the contracting strategy and implement the Annual Procurement Plan.
• Assess existing contractual practices, recommend changes to mitigate risk, and develop a contracts operating strategy aligned with company KPIs.
• Oversee the procurement process: bidder list, tender and award strategy, evaluation procedures, due diligence checks, commercial analysis and final contract documents.
• Advise on negotiation strategy, amendments and variations, and support users in interpreting contracts and handling close-out.
• Review variation orders, lead negotiations with contractors, and settle claims and disputes in line with the legal and contractual framework.
• Manage the department's personnel, resources, budgets and operational plans, and implement policies, systems, performance management and succession planning.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline, preferably in Management.
• 10+ years of experience in contracts management and administration, preferably in oil and gas, including 5 years in a senior supervisory position.
• Professional certification such as CIPS, RICS or PMI is an advantage.
