Terminal Operator

About the role

The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and discharging of road tankers at a fuel terminal. Working mainly at the loading gantry, the role ensures product transfers are accurate, compliant with procedures, and aligned with HSE standards.

Key responsibilities

• Load and discharge road tankers safely, verifying documentation, seals, and driver authorisation.
• Connect/disconnect loading arms and hoses, ensure earthing, bonding and over‑fill protection.
• Operate loading rack equipment, pumps and metering systems, monitoring quantities transferred.
• Perform line‑up of pipelines, operate valves and pumps for product receipt, transfer and dispatch.
• Gauge storage tanks, record product levels, temperatures and collect samples for basic quality checks.
• Conduct routine inspections of pumps, valves, meters, generators and firefighting equipment.
• Report equipment malfunctions, assist maintenance activities and maintain good housekeeping.
• Comply with HSE policies, wear required PPE and participate in safety meetings.
• Document daily operations, meter readings and maintain shift handover logs.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or Technical Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in terminal, tank farm or similar petroleum handling environment.
