Thermal System Design Engineer II

About the role

EDGE, an advanced technology group headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, is looking for a Thermal System Design Engineer II based in Abu Dhabi. The engineer carries out gas turbine component thermal analysis, secondary air system and oil system design and analysis within the turbojet and turbofan development programs. The role calls for expert knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and gas turbine propulsion, and the ability to plan projects and develop individuals.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out component thermal analysis simulations for thermal mapping of the engine
• Carry out steady and transient thermal and secondary flow assessments in gas turbine engine components
• Carry out sizing and design studies for the oil and lubrication system, seals, sump, bearings and pumps
• Develop numerical and experimental methods for method verification and validation
• Support other team members, develop junior engineers and give constructive feedback
• Review designs and simulations and generate testing guidelines
• Identify project risks and plan for mitigation

Required profile

• Aerospace or mechanical engineering degree or a related field
• Strong background in gas turbine propulsion, heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
• Fluent in English; English is required for all roles
• 5-15 years or more of experience
• Good communication and presentation skills, and the ability to solve problems, prioritise tasks and delegate

Required skills

• Commercial tools such as Ansys Workbench or similar
• FEA, CFD or lower-order simulation methods
• 1D flow network software such as Flomaster and Amesim
• Programming in C, Matlab/Simulink or similar
• Awareness of state-of-the-art materials, aerodynamics and structural mechanics linked to thermal system design
