Tunnel Design Engineer

About the role

The Boring Company is building an underground network to alleviate traffic congestion. We are seeking a Tunnel Design Engineer to lead geotechnical and tunnel design from investigation through construction in Dubai. This founding position will shape our regional tunneling capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Create geotechnical data, interpretation and design reports for tunnels and shafts.
• Develop temporary excavation support designs, drawings and calculations.
• Produce tunnel lining documentation, including lateral earth pressure and durability design.
• Perform settlement and impact analysis on adjacent structures and infrastructure.
• Plan and execute geotechnical investigations and dewatering schemes.
• Oversee implementation of settlement monitoring plans and construction observations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or related field.
• 1–10 years of experience in underground construction, tunneling or mining.
• Current residence in the UAE/GCC or eligibility to work in the UAE.
• UAE Society of Engineers registration (or eligibility) is a plus.

Required skills

• Geotechnical investigation and slope stability analysis.
• Design of excavation support and tunnel lining systems.
• Settlement analysis and mitigation for adjacent structures.
• Dewatering design and groundwater control.
• Soft‑ground TBM (EPB or slurry) design and face pressure assessment.
• Uplift and buoyancy design for high water‑table conditions.
