VTS Operator – Marine Department

About the role

RAK Ports is looking for a vigilant VTS Operator to join its Marine Department at Saqr Port. You will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient vessel movements within the port using Vessel Traffic Services, radar, AIS and VHF communications.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control vessel traffic within port limits, anchorage areas and harbour channels.
• Coordinate berthing, un‑berthing, shifting and pilotage activities following Harbour Master instructions.
• Operate VTS, radar, AIS and VHF communication systems to maintain safe navigation.
• Track weather conditions, navigational warnings and marine safety updates, relaying information to vessels and stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate logs of vessel movements, incidents and operational activities.
• Liaise with vessel masters, agents, Coast Guard, pilots, tug crews and internal departments.
• Report hazards, equipment defects, safety violations and incidents promptly.
• Support compliance with port regulations and environmental requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent maritime qualification.
• Short Range VHF Radio Certification.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in VTS, VHF radio, radar systems and port operations.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and operational software.
• Ability to stay focused and make sound decisions in a dynamic marine environment.
