2nd Engineer – Dredger Operations

About the role

The 2nd Engineer will manage day‑to‑day engine room operations and support the Chief Engineer to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted dredging activities aboard the vessel.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily operation and maintenance of main engines, generators, pumps, compressors and auxiliary machinery.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance according to the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical faults.
• Oversee maintenance and operation of dredging equipment including dredge pumps, winches, hydraulic systems and pipelines.
• Monitor machinery performance, fuel consumption, lubrication and cooling systems.
• Supervise engine‑room crew and enforce safe working practices.
• Maintain engine‑room logs, maintenance records, spare‑parts inventory and technical reports.
• Assist the Chief Engineer during dry‑docking, overhauls, inspections and audits.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, MARPOL, SOLAS, class and flag‑state regulations.
• Conduct toolbox talks, emergency drills and support vessel emergency response.
• Coordinate with the deck department to support safe and efficient dredging operations.

Required profile

• Certificate of Competency (COC) as 2nd Engineer.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience onboard dredgers.
