Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer II

About the role

We are looking for an engineer to tackle challenging additive manufacturing problems across design, process development and production within EDGE’s POWERTECH centre of excellence. The role involves working on advanced LPBF metal components for aerospace, defence and propulsion applications, where requirements can be incomplete and engineering judgement is critical.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and manufacture of advanced LPBF metal AM components.
• Drive DfAM activities to improve performance, manufacturability and part consolidation.
• Define build strategies including orientation, support methodology, segmentation and parameter selection.
• Diagnose and resolve complex AM manufacturing issues such as distortion, residual stress, cracking and process instability.
• Collaborate with design owners and cross‑functional teams to mature components from concept through manufacture.
• Develop scalable AM workflows, standards and engineering best practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Materials Engineering or a related field.
• Strong experience with metal additive manufacturing, particularly laser powder bed fusion (LPBF).
• Proven ability to work independently and drive technical activities forward.

Required skills

• Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles.
• CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, Creo or similar).
• Understanding of AM process physics and parameter optimisation.
• CFD simulation experience.
• AM simulation, scan‑strategy optimisation and thermal distortion mitigation.
