Associate Director – Technical Architect

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is looking for an Associate / Associate Director – Technical Architect to lead the technical delivery of large multidisciplinary projects across the UAE and the wider Middle East. The role combines strategic technical leadership with hands‑on design oversight, ensuring architectural excellence, compliance and constructability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical architectural design from concept through construction for major mixed‑use, commercial, hospitality, residential, aviation, cultural, healthcare and public sector projects.
• Provide expert guidance on building systems, materials, detailing, coordination and technical compliance, reviewing and approving all architectural deliverables.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including structural, MEP, landscape and specialist consultants to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Conduct technical reviews, design audits and quality‑assurance processes, ensuring adherence to UAE regulations, international codes and client standards.
• Mentor architects and project teams, support project directors in programme, risk and resource management, and engage with clients, authorities and contractors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture with a minimum of 15 years of professional experience, predominantly in the Middle East market.
• Proven track record delivering large‑scale, complex projects across sectors such as mixed‑use, commercial, hospitality, residential, aviation and healthcare.
• Strong stakeholder‑management and client‑facing skills, with experience in leading multidisciplinary design coordination.
• Professional accreditation such as Chartered Architect, RIBA, AIA or equivalent is preferred.
