Biodiversity Manager

About the role

Masdar is seeking an experienced Biodiversity Manager to lead biodiversity activities for the Zarafshan wind power project and support corporate biodiversity initiatives. The role can be based in Abu Dhabi or Zarafshan, Uzbekistan, and involves overseeing biodiversity management plans, monitoring, and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor the Biodiversity Management Plan in line with international standards.
• Prepare and execute the Biodiversity Action Plan for plant species meeting critical habitat criteria.
• Lead the birds offset plan and manage any fatalities of target species.
• Commission and supervise external biodiversity surveys, including birds and bats, and analyse results to update management plans.
• Prepare Terms of Reference, manage tender processes and oversee execution of monitoring surveys.
• Provide technical ornithological advice on the installation, configuration and maintenance of the Identiflight Shutdown on Demand (SoD) system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 8‑10 years of experience in biodiversity management, including at least 3 years on wind‑power projects.
• Membership in recognized national or international biodiversity organisations is an advantage.

Required skills

• Experience with Biodiversity Management Plans (BMP) and Biodiversity Action Plans (BAP).
• Knowledge of biodiversity offsets and PCFM (Project Conservation and Management) approaches.
• Technical expertise in ornithology and bat monitoring.
• Proficiency with the Identiflight Shutdown on Demand (SoD) system.
