Chief Legal Officer (CLO)

About the role

The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) provides strategic legal leadership for Zayed University, ensuring compliance with UAE government regulations and protecting the institution from legal risks. Reporting to senior management, the CLO guides all legal matters across multiple campuses and supports the university’s long‑term objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and direct all organizational activities to ensure lawful conduct and regulatory compliance.
• Advise senior management on legal implications of strategic plans, contracts, and agreements.
• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts with vendors, procurement, HR, government entities, and other partners.
• Conduct legal research and stay current with relevant legislation and policies.
• Represent the university in court when required and coordinate with external counsel.
• Build and manage relationships with external law firms to protect the university’s interests.
• Oversee the legal department and act as the primary point of contact for all external legal matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience representing organisations in litigation and court proceedings.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and negotiate complex contracts.
• Experience building and maintaining relationships with external law firms.
• Strong independent judgment and professionalism in legal practice.
