CSSD Technician

About the role

The Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient decontamination, testing, and distribution of reusable medical devices used in direct patient care. Working within a hospital environment, the role ensures that all equipment meets strict cleanliness and functionality standards before reaching clinical areas.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, dis‑assemble, clean, inspect and test contaminated equipment according to established protocols.
• Operate and validate washer‑disinfector machines, dryers, sterilizers and other decontamination equipment.
• Perform quality checks for cleanliness and completeness of devices prior to distribution to wards, theatres and other departments.
• Document validation tests, maintain accurate records and report any deviations to supervisors.
• Issue sterile supplies, manage stock levels and assist with restocking activities.
• Receive and verify deliveries of medical goods, recording any non‑conformances.
• Carry out clerical tasks as required and adhere to all health‑and‑safety policies.

• Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Effective communication with staff at all levels, including senior clinicians.
• Willingness to attend mandatory training and report incidents promptly.
