Dynamic Positioning Operator

About the role

The Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) works as a Junior DP watchstander under the direct supervision of a Senior DPO. The role involves maintaining vessel position during offshore operations, monitoring DP systems, and supporting navigation and safety functions.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the automated DP system to keep the vessel on station while on location or underway.
• Maintain constant communication with the rig floor, ROV, engine control room and master to ensure situational awareness.
• Record all DP system data, logs and check‑lists in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist in preventative maintenance of DP equipment and manage spare‑part inventories.
• Serve as Navigational Watch Officer when relieved from DP duties, including radio and GMDSS watch.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience on DP vessels in an industrial marine environment.
• Unlimited DPO certificate issued by the Nautical Institute and USCG Unlimited Tonnage license.
• Completion of all training requirements for the position within the designated time period.

Required skills

• Proficiency with dynamic positioning control systems and DP software.
• Knowledge of GMDSS, radar and vessel management system (VMS) operations.
• Familiarity with hydrophones, subsea beacons and acoustic position reference systems.
• Understanding of closed‑loop control theory, thruster performance and DP alarm response.
• Ability to use office applications for reporting and data logging.
