Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) – Dredger

About the role

The Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all electrical, electronic, and control systems aboard a dredger. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable performance of dredging equipment and power systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and control systems on the dredger.
• Ensure safe and efficient functioning of dredging equipment such as pumps, motors, winches, and auxiliary systems.
• Monitor and maintain power generation and distribution systems, including switchboards and protection devices.
• Carry out Planned Maintenance System (PMS) tasks according to schedule and report completion.
• Assist in fault finding and rectification of electrical and automation systems to minimize downtime.
• Support operation and maintenance of PLC, SCADA, and instrumentation systems used in dredging processes.
• Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, and electrical spare parts inventory.
• Assist in troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor control systems.
• Coordinate with Chief Engineer and Senior ETO for smooth vessel operations.
• Participate in dry‑dock activities, inspections, and testing of electrical equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics.
• STCW certification and valid ETO license.
• 3‑5 years of experience onboard a dredger.

• Control systems, PLC, SCADA, and instrumentation.
• Power generation and distribution, switchboards, protection devices.
• Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and motor control systems.
