Field Test Engineer – Autonomous Robotics

About the role

The Field Test Engineer will lead validation and deployment of an autonomous ground‑robotics platform. Working closely with cross‑functional engineering teams, you will ensure new platform configurations are field‑ready and perform reliably in real‑world conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute test plans, field campaigns and acceptance criteria based on system requirements.
• Conduct end‑to‑end testing of hardware, software and integrated subsystems in controlled and outdoor environments.
• Monitor performance metrics such as navigation accuracy, localization drift, obstacle avoidance and system stability.
• Support hardware‑software integration, sensor bring‑up, and onboard compute configuration.
• Validate interfaces (ROS1/ROS2 topics, services, actions; CAN bus; serial; Ethernet) and ensure data pipeline integrity.
• Perform intrinsic and extrinsic calibration of LiDAR, cameras, IMU and GNSS/GPS and verify calibration quality.
• Tune navigation, control parameters and SLAM settings, maintaining version‑controlled records.
• Operate and maintain robotic platforms in diverse field environments, conducting pre‑deployment checks and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in field testing, integration and calibration of autonomous robotic systems.
• Strong hands‑on technical ability combined with systematic documentation and reporting skills.
• Comfortable working in outdoor, semi‑structured terrains and adhering to safety protocols.

Required skills

• ROS (ROS1 and ROS2) launch file configuration and topic/service/action handling.
• Sensor integration and calibration: LiDAR, monocular/stereo/RGB‑D cameras, IMU, GNSS/GPS.
• Communication protocols: CAN bus, serial, Ethernet.
• SLAM, mapping, localization and sensor‑fusion concepts.
• Parameter tuning for navigation, control and cost‑map generation.
