Primary Inclusion Learning Assistant

About the role

The Primary Inclusion Learning Assistant supports the learning and personal development of designated students with additional needs. Working under the guidance of the class teacher and Head of Inclusion/SENCO, the assistant creates a safe and inclusive environment that aligns with each student’s Individual Education Plan.

Key responsibilities

• Follow the framework set by the teacher and Head of Inclusion/SENCO to support lesson participation and provide feedback.
• Supervise and facilitate individualized support, ensuring safety and access to learning activities, including specialist lessons.
• Provide informal feedback on progress and achievement under teacher guidance.
• Record and share concerns or positive observations about the student’s welfare and achievements with relevant staff.
• Communicate regularly with parents via email and reports on IEP/pupil passport targets.
• Maintain up‑to‑date IEP/pupil passport files, records, and minutes.
• Contribute to the physical, emotional, and social well‑being of all children.
• Attend staff meetings, professional development days, and accompany students to extracurricular activities when required.
• Assist in other school areas as needed, including collaborative settings with other students.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Willingness to undergo background, reference, identification, and police checks.
• Ability to work under the direction of teachers and the Head of Inclusion/SENCO.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with students, staff, and parents.
