Principal Engineer (Aerodynamics-Missiles)

About the role

EDGE Group’s Advanced Concepts unit is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design, analysis and optimisation of missile systems. The role covers aerodynamics, structures, flight dynamics, controls, propulsion and stability, driving high‑speed aerodynamic and heat‑transfer studies for next‑generation weapons.

Key responsibilities

• Lead conceptual design and performance evaluation of missiles, including fuselage, wings and control surfaces.
• Integrate structural and aerodynamic considerations to ensure balanced functionality.
• Apply advanced knowledge of high‑speed aerodynamics, transonic and supersonic flows, and heat transfer.
• Conduct store‑separation simulations and validate results.
• Support the chief engineer with technical contributions and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in the UAS industry, with at least 5 years in a senior or team‑lead role.
• Demonstrated expertise in guided weapons and missile technology.

Required skills

• MATLAB
• SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD)
• DATCOM (low‑fidelity aerodynamic tools)
• ANSYS Fluent (high‑fidelity CFD and CHT)
• HPC cluster usage for CFD/CHT simulations
• Jet propulsion knowledge (solid rocket motors, turbines)
• Missile control theory
• High‑speed aerodynamics and heat‑transfer analysis
