Principal Engineer - Water

About the role

WSP is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer – Water to lead the design and delivery of large‑scale water, hydrology and wet‑utilities projects across Sharjah and the wider UAE. This senior technical position sits within the Transport & Infrastructure business unit and offers the chance to shape complex programmes in a dynamic market.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end design and delivery of potable water, stormwater drainage, foul sewerage, TSE/irrigation networks and hydrological systems.
• Provide technical leadership in hydrology, hydraulic modelling and wet‑utilities design, ensuring compliance with local authority standards and international best practices.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, integrating civil, structural, environmental, transport and other engineering disciplines.
• Produce high‑quality technical outputs such as design reports, modelling results, specifications, drawings, tender documents and engineering studies.
• Engage with clients and authorities, presenting solutions, managing submissions and securing timely approvals.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge transfer.
• Support project managers with planning, budgeting, risk management and overall technical strategy.
• Contribute to business development through proposal preparation, bid support and client relationship building.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in water infrastructure design, including wet utilities and hydrology.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale water projects in the UAE.
• Strong ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder communication.
• Demonstrated expertise in navigating local authority requirements and approval processes.
