Protection Design Engineer

About the role

The Protection Design Engineer will join Emirates Electrical Engineering, a business platform of Al Rostamani Group, to develop and deliver protection and control panel solutions for high‑voltage substations, cable networks and transmission lines across the UAE.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret customer and utility specifications (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, UL) to create protection panel designs.
• Prepare engineering deliverables such as single‑line diagrams, schematics, GA drawings, panel layouts, BOMs and cable schedules.
• Select and size protection relays, breakers, CTs/VTs, meters, PLCs, HMIs, communication devices and power supplies.
• Design panel layouts, internal wiring and busbar systems while respecting thermal limits, short‑circuit ratings and safety clearances.
• Generate manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or ELCAD.
• Support tendering activities with technical input and optimized BOQ solutions.
• Coordinate with project, production, quality and planning teams to ensure on‑time, within‑budget delivery.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and liaise with vendors for component approvals.
• Participate in customer meetings and design reviews to clarify requirements and drive improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience interpreting IEC, IEEE, ANSI and UL specifications for protection design.
• Ability to lead and guide a design team to meet departmental objectives.
• Familiarity with ISO documentation guidelines and project tracking.
