School Librarian

About the role

The School Librarian will manage the daily operations of the school library, fostering a love of reading and supporting the academic needs of students and staff. This full‑time position involves curating collections, assisting users, and maintaining accurate library records.

Key responsibilities

• Select, develop, catalog, and classify library resources.
• Prepare and manage the library budget.
• Circulate books, periodicals, CDs and other materials using the GEMS Oasis Library Management Software.
• Process new acquisitions and record them in the accession register.
• Inspect returned items, compute fines, and send notices for overdue or lost materials.
• Maintain comprehensive records of all items via the library software system.
• Assist students, teachers and parents with reference queries and resource discovery.
• Organise book talks, fairs, exhibitions and displays to promote reading.
• Conduct inventory checks, manage stock, and oversee removal, relocation or binding of items.
• Manage serial collections and acquire new library materials.
• Research and select new books, e‑books, videos and periodicals based on reviews and publisher announcements.
• Create attractive, accessible library spaces with effective signage and publicity.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Librarianship, Library Science or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role, preferably in an educational setting.
• Good knowledge of library management systems and online resources.
• Strong organisational and communication abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GEMS Oasis Library Management Software.
• Experience in cataloguing and classification of library materials.
