Secondary Learning Support Assistant

About the role

The Secondary Learning Support Assistant works closely with the class teacher and Head of Inclusion/SENCO to create a supportive learning environment for designated students. The role focuses on implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensuring students can safely access all learning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Follow the framework set by the teacher and SENCO, outlining the assistant’s role in lessons.
• Supervise and facilitate individual support for named students, aligning with IEP/pupil passport targets.
• Provide informal feedback on progress under teacher guidance.
• Record and share concerns or positive observations with teachers and support professionals.
• Communicate regularly with parents via email and reports regarding IEP outcomes.
• Maintain up‑to‑date IEP/pupil passport files and related documentation.
• Contribute to the physical, emotional, and social well‑being of students.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development days as required.
• Accompany students to extracurricular activities outside school hours when needed.
• Support other areas of the school flexibly, including collaborative settings.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the direction of teachers and the Head of Inclusion/SENCO.
• Experience supporting students with individualized learning plans.
• Strong organisational skills for maintaining records and documentation.
• Effective communication with students, staff, and parents.
• Willingness to attend meetings, training, and extracurricular duties.
