Senior Architect / Architect of Record (AOR)

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Architect / Architect of Record (AOR) to act as the central technical authority for architectural delivery across the Middle East. The role safeguards design intent, ensures statutory compliance, and represents projects to Abu Dhabi authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage architectural design development from concept through IFC, ensuring compliance with project requirements and UAE design codes.
• Review, validate, and sign off architectural deliverables as AOR, aligning with Abu Dhabi authority standards.
• Oversee production of drawings, specifications, BIM models, and technical documentation in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide technical guidance on materials, detailing, buildability, and construction methodologies.
• Act as primary liaison with Abu Dhabi authorities for design approvals, NOCs, building permits, and regulatory inspections.
• Prepare and review regulatory documentation, design compliance reports, and authority checklists.
• Coordinate architectural efforts with structural, MEP, landscape, sustainability, and specialist teams.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, material approvals, and RFIs to ensure site execution matches approved IFC packages.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor architectural quality, compliance, finishes, and design integrity.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and government bodies.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in architectural design and delivery within the Middle East, particularly the United Arab Emirates.
• Proven track record as an Architect of Record or similar authority‑liaison role.
• Deep knowledge of UAE design codes, regulatory processes, and Abu Dhabi authority requirements.
• Strong ability to lead interdisciplinary coordination and manage complex design packages.
• Excellent analytical skills to identify risks, resolve technical issues, and support project managers.
