Senior Design Engineer – Composites

About the role

EDGE’s Advanced Concepts division is seeking a Senior Design Engineer specialized in composites to lead the design and manufacturing of high‑technology autonomous systems. You will work on cutting‑edge unmanned aerial platforms, precision munitions, and guided artillery components.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design for manufacture practices and evaluate new concepts for optimal production processes.
• Review comparative studies of manufacturing methods and materials, presenting clear conclusions to project leadership.
• Create and implement engineering changes or work instructions on the shop floor, ensuring compliance throughout production.
• Drive technical selection of materials and processes, designing alternatives to improve quality, efficiency, performance, and cost.
• Monitor project‑by‑project production output, identify efficiencies and issues, and conduct root‑cause analysis.
• Participate in technical design reviews, providing manufacturability feedback and generating reports on process improvements.
• Track material usage and production metrics, proposing actionable plans to reduce waste and boost productivity.
• Inspect finished products for quality, tolerance, and mechanical performance compliance.
• Utilize strong 3D design expertise to redesign parts or develop complete assemblies from concept to production drawings, including full BOMs.
• Assist in integration and testing of composite assemblies with electrical or hydraulic systems as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in production engineering with a focus on composites.
• Preferred 10+ years in a similar role, with certifications in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
• Proven ability to lead design for manufacture and drive continuous improvement.
