Senior Dredge Master

About the role

The Senior Dredge Master leads the operation and maintenance of the cutter suction dredger (CSD) while ensuring a safe, efficient and productive working environment. He/she trains the crew in dredging techniques, oversees daily planning and drives continuous improvement on‑board.

Key responsibilities

• Exercise overall control of CSD maintenance, operation, crew welfare, discipline and training.
• Teach and guide crew on dredging techniques, deck and engine‑room activities.
• Generate production reports for each operation and provide day‑to‑day planning input.
• Track wear‑and‑tear of soil‑conveying components and monitor pumped volumes.
• Plan, schedule and verify maintenance of CSD and auxiliary vessels.
• Advise the dredging superintendent on work‑process planning, cutting patterns and shore connections.
• Assess crew performance and deliver detailed evaluations to Crewing, Operations and Technical departments.
• Implement the CSD maintenance plan in line with technical objectives.
• Report accidents, incidents and near‑misses to project and HSE managers.
• Identify hazards, obtain HSE information, make recommendations and investigate incidents.
• Organise and supervise cutter‑suction dredging works according to quality, safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience operating and maintaining cutter‑suction dredgers.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to train and evaluate crew.
• Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, ISM management and incident investigation.
• Ability to plan, schedule and optimise maintenance activities.
• Excellent analytical skills for production reporting and performance monitoring.
