Senior Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) – Dredger

About the role

The Senior Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) will lead the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all electrical, electronic and automation systems aboard a dredger. This role ensures the continuous availability and reliability of critical dredging equipment while supporting the vessel’s engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee electrical, electronic and automation systems, including high‑voltage networks, PLCs, SCADA and power distribution.
• Maintain and troubleshoot cutter heads, dredge pumps, winches and propulsion control systems.
• Manage variable frequency drives (VFDs) and dredging‑specific instrumentation.
• Supervise junior electrical staff and implement Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer and Master to meet project timelines and operational targets.
• Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, class requirements and HSE standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, spares inventory and performance logs.
• Support dry‑dock planning, inspections, upgrades and commissioning of electrical systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics engineering.
• STCW certification and valid ETO license.
• 5‑10 years of experience on cutter suction dredgers (CSD) or trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD).
• Proven ability to work in offshore, high‑risk environments.
