Shift Controller – Production Operations

About the role

The Shift Controller leads the afternoon, night and holiday shifts for a diversified refinery operation. Acting as the central point of control, the role ensures that raw material handling, sulphur and refined product movement, storage, blending and loading are synchronized, safe and cost‑effective.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor operation parameters and laboratory analyses during the shift to meet production targets while minimizing waste and cost.
• Coordinate on‑call mechanical, electrical, control, production and safety personnel to ensure uninterrupted plant operation.
• Liaise with external partners such as GASCO, Borouge and Fertile for required services.
• Conduct emergency simulations, declare and manage emergencies as on‑scene commander.
• Review accidents, incidents and near‑misses with sub‑ordinates to prevent recurrence.
• Work with unit supervisors to eliminate unplanned flare sources and optimise utility usage.
• Oversee security, general services and administration after normal hours.
• Report shift status, problems and work‑arounds to the supervisor.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 8 years of operational experience in plant environments, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
• UAE driving licence (advantageous), good English; Arabic preferred.
• Strong understanding of business impact, leadership and planning abilities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HSE Management Systems and emergency response procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Distributed Control System (DCS) software.
• Familiarity with HSEMS and the Incident Command System.
• Basic computer literacy and mathematical competence for reporting and analysis.
