Third Watchkeeping Engineer – Dredger

About the role

We are seeking a Third Watchkeeping Engineer to join the engineering team aboard a dredger. The role supports the Chief Engineer in safe and efficient operation of all machinery, including propulsion, auxiliary systems and dredging equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out watch‑keeping duties in the engine room, continuously monitoring main engines, generators, pumps, compressors and auxiliary machinery.
• Operate, monitor and maintain main propulsion, auxiliary engines, boilers and associated systems as assigned.
• Assist in the operation and maintenance of dredging machinery such as dredge pumps, cutter drives, cutter ladders and spud systems.
• Conduct regular machinery rounds, record operating parameters and promptly report defects, alarms or leaks.
• Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance following the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Support overhauls, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of engines, pumps, valves and hydraulic systems.
• Maintain accurate engine‑room logs, maintenance records and checklists.
• Coordinate with deck and dredging personnel for cutter, spud, ladder, winch or dredge‑pump operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience on marine vessels, preferably on a dredger.

Required skills

• Marine engine operation and monitoring.
• Pump and compressor operation.
• Hydraulic system maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Experience with dredging machinery (dredge pump, cutter drive, spud system).
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems (PMS) and routine inspections.
• Fuel transfer and bunkering procedures.
