Vessel Operator – Container & Dry Bulk

About the role

LILA GLOBAL is seeking a Vessel Operator to manage end‑to‑end operational and commercial responsibilities for assigned container and dry‑bulk vessels. The role ensures safe, efficient, and cost‑effective voyage execution while collaborating with charterers, brokers, ship managers, masters, terminals and port agents.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day vessel performance, ensuring compliance with voyage instructions and charter party terms.
• Track vessel speed, fuel consumption, bunker status and weather conditions; monitor loading and discharging progress.
• Maintain accurate voyage and port‑call records in the operations system.
• Supervise cargo handling, validate stowage plans, lashing arrangements, DG/IMDG documentation and reefer requirements for container voyages.
• For dry‑bulk voyages, manage hold cleaning schedules, cargo suitability, draft surveys and pre‑loading surveys.
• Prepare hire and freight invoices, calculate laytime and settle demurrage/dispatch claims.
• Handle charter‑party disputes, liaise with P&I clubs, insurers and surveyors on claims and incidents.
• Monitor and control voyage‑related costs, ensuring adherence to budgets.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in dry‑bulk or container vessel operations, preferably within a ship‑owning environment.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
