Design Manager – Client Liaison & Project Lead

About the role

The Design Manager acts as the primary liaison between the client and the design team for new projects, overseeing the full design lifecycle from concept through implementation. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the client’s objectives while maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage client‑requested projects end‑to‑end, ensuring timely and budget‑conscious delivery.
• Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and cost studies to define consultant and contractor responsibilities.
• Engage qualified consultants and contractors and serve as the main point of contact for external vendors.
• Review designs for regulatory compliance, feasibility, and schedule adherence.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of the design process and project phases.
• Control project budgets, flagging potential issues early.
• Develop and coordinate risk plans in line with client requirements.
• Lead client meetings, record minutes, and track action items.
• Support the Quantity Surveyor in financial and contractual management.
• Provide value‑engineering solutions to achieve cost or time savings.
• Coach, train, and mentor the design team.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading design‑focused projects in a construction or fit‑out environment.
• Strong client‑facing and communication skills.
• Ability to manage budgets, risks, and stakeholder expectations.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external consultants.
• Detail‑oriented with a focus on regulatory compliance and quality.
