Head of Legal, GCC & NA

About the role

AIG is seeking a Head of Legal for the GCC and North America region to provide high‑quality, commercially focused legal advice to its UAE insurance operations. The role partners with senior management and multiple business functions to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on insurance and reinsurance matters, including policy wordings, endorsements, and contracts.
• Review, negotiate and draft commercial agreements with brokers, intermediaries, service providers and reinsurers.
• Advise on regulatory requirements of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), DIFC and DFSA, and support regulatory submissions and inspections.
• Support business teams on new product development, distribution arrangements and contractual risk.
• Liaise with external counsel on complex or sensitive legal matters.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with substantial experience in insurance or reinsurance.
• Strong knowledge of UAE insurance laws and regulations, and practical experience with CBUAE.
• Proven ability to advise senior management and negotiate commercial contracts.
• Excellent analytical, drafting and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a lean legal function and balance legal risk with business objectives.

• Expertise in insurance law, reinsurance, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience negotiating and drafting commercial agreements.
• Strong commercial judgment and stakeholder management.
