Metallurgist – FAMTL

About the role

EDGE is seeking a Metallurgist to lead the FAMTL laboratory supporting the UAE Armed Forces. The role combines technical expertise in metallurgy with supervision of lab analysts to ensure reliability and safety of land‑based platforms and weapon systems.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise assigned Lab Analysts and act as the metallurgical engineering expert.
• Review and improve reliability prediction methods and test procedures.
• Monitor emerging technologies in reliability, maintainability and testing.
• Analyse test data to identify root causes of material and component failures.
• Provide technical assistance on chemical composition, forging, heat treatment and mechanical testing.
• Advise design, modelling and simulation teams on required design changes.
• Review weapon system specifications and recommend reliability and test criteria for procurement contracts.
• Support contracting officials and quality‑assurance personnel on material specifications and defect acceptance standards.
• Develop and enforce acceptance standards to prevent substandard materials.
• Oversee projects on non‑destructive testing methods and ensure their integration into quality‑assurance processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising laboratory personnel.
• Strong background in metallurgical engineering and material failure analysis.
• Familiarity with reliability, maintainability and testing standards for defense equipment.
