Pharmacy Technician

About the role

New Pharmacy Company Abu Dhabi is hiring a Pharmacy Technician who assists the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications. The role covers compounding and dispensing for medical outpatients and inpatients according to prescriptions and orders from physicians and dentists, following the formulary and standards set by the UAE Government and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Key responsibilities

• Compound and dispense medications and preparations for outpatients and inpatients, and prepare prescriptions for the in-charge and second pharmacist.
• Maintain patient medication profiles (computerized and manual where applicable) to check for contraindications, allergies, dose correctness, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, therapeutic duplication and adherence to drug restrictions.
• Follow proper handling and storage procedures, and recognise physical and chemical changes in stored medicines.
• Perform specialty pharmacy activities as delegated, and maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
• Label high-alert medications, concentrated electrolytes and hazardous materials correctly.
• Work shifts to meet the operational needs of the unit, and stay in the pharmacy only while a pharmacist is present.

Required profile

• Valid DOH license as Pharmacy Technician / Assistant Pharmacist.
• Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) program of 2 years duration.
• 2 years of pharmacy practice experience in the UAE.
• Current, valid license to practice in the home country, without conditions or limitations.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.

Required skills

• Knowledge of medication handling, prescription processing and pharmacy procedures.
• Understanding of UAE healthcare regulations and medication safety standards.
• Good communication, organisational and customer service skills.
