Rail Design Director – Architecture

About the role

Jacobs is seeking an experienced Rail Design Director – Architecture to lead the architectural vision and delivery of large‑scale rail and transit infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi. You will guide multidisciplinary teams from concept through construction, ensuring design excellence and strategic alignment with client goals.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the architectural design strategy for high‑speed rail, metro, light rail, commuter rail, and transit‑oriented developments.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams through concept, schematic, detailed design, procurement and construction support phases.
• Establish design quality standards, governance processes and technical excellence across all projects.
• Mentor and develop high‑performing architects, urban designers and technical specialists.
• Oversee design and delivery of stations, interchanges, depots, maintenance facilities and associated infrastructure.
• Ensure station designs deliver superior passenger experience, accessibility, safety and sustainability.
• Integrate rail infrastructure with surrounding urban environments and multimodal transport hubs.
• Engage with clients, government authorities, transport operators and contractors to drive project success and business growth.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (Master’s preferred).
• Professional registration or chartership with a recognized body is highly desirable.
• 15+ years of experience in architecture and transportation infrastructure design, including leadership roles.
• Proven track record leading major rail and transit infrastructure projects.
• Extensive experience designing rail stations, transit hubs and passenger facilities.
• Experience with high‑speed rail, metro, light rail and commuter rail projects.
