Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical systems for large‑scale commercial projects such as malls, food courts, cinemas and back‑of‑house facilities. The role involves overseeing the full project lifecycle from concept through commissioning, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with local and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design and review of HVAC, plumbing, fire‑fighting and drainage systems.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural and electrical disciplines to integrate MEP solutions.
• Ensure designs meet local codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, etc.) and obtain authority approvals.
• Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, method statements and ITPs.
• Evaluate energy‑efficient and sustainable solutions for complex commercial environments.
• Oversee site installation, testing and commissioning, and resolve technical issues during construction.
• Monitor project progress, manage milestones and ensure timely completion of mechanical works.
• Prepare design reports, compliance documentation and O&M manuals for clients.
• Mentor junior engineers and enforce quality assurance across all deliverables.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s a plus).
• Minimum 13 years of experience, including at least 5 years on mega‑projects.
• Proven experience with high‑capacity HVAC, chilled water networks, ventilation and fire protection in complex commercial buildings.
• Strong knowledge of local authority approval processes.
• Professional membership in ASHRAE, NFPA or similar bodies; LEED AP or Estidama PQP preferred.

• Mechanical design software: HAP, Elite, AutoCAD MEP, Revit, Navisworks.
• HVAC system design, chilled water plant design, smoke management and fire‑protection design.
• Energy‑efficiency and sustainable design principles.
• Technical evaluation of pumps, chillers, cooling towers and control systems.
