Specialist Physician – General Surgery

About the role

SSMC is seeking a compassionate Specialist Physician in General Surgery to deliver primary and acute care to patients with injuries and common illnesses. The role involves comprehensive patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing medical management within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Examine patients, take detailed medical histories and address concerns.
• Diagnose and treat injuries, illnesses, and disorders.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, communicating results to patients.
• Counsel patients on diet, hygiene, preventive health and lifestyle modifications.
• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date patient charts and medical records.
• Develop and recommend individualized treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications or therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
• Explain medical procedures and care plans to patients and families.
• Collaborate with other physicians, refer to specialists when needed, and work closely with nurses and allied health staff.
• Adhere to medical laws and regulations, including patient confidentiality standards.

Required profile

• Medical degree with completed residency and internship.
• Valid state license and certification to practice medicine.
• Broad knowledge and experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong leadership, organizational and detail‑oriented skills.
• Patience, empathy and a commitment to continuous learning.
