Mechanical Design Engineer II

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer II will support the design, analysis, and development of gas‑turbine and turbojet/turbofan engines for aerospace and defense applications. Working under senior engineers, the role focuses on detailed mechanical design, testing support, and ownership of specific components or sub‑assemblies.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop turbomachinery components such as shafts, casings, brackets, seals and secondary hardware, creating 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack‑up.
• Perform high‑fidelity stress, deformation and fatigue analyses, and support thermal growth and clearance evaluations.
• Assist in rotor assembly design, bearing integration, and housing design for rotating equipment.
• Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, interact with manufacturing, and define material selections and tolerances.
• Support engine build, rig testing, instrumentation definition, and documentation of engineering changes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 4–7 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in turbomachinery or gas‑turbine environments.
• Experience working in product development settings.

Required skills

• Mechanical design fundamentals and GD&T.
• Stress, fatigue and thermal analysis knowledge.
• Basic rotating machinery concepts.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (CATIA, NX or similar).
• Basic FEA tools (ANSYS or similar).
• Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and tolerance stack‑up principles.
