Specialist Physician – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

The Specialist Physician in the Intensive Care Unit provides high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centered care alongside Consultant Physicians. The role includes supervising junior staff, participating in on‑call rotations, and contributing to continuous quality improvement within the ICU.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver clinical care to ICU patients in line with best‑practice standards.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff, sharing responsibility for their patient care.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to plan safe, holistic patient care.
• Ensure appropriate resource utilization and compliance with hospital policies on admissions, consultations, procedures, and discharge.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Support incident reporting, investigations, and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialization in intensive care or related field.
• Experience in diagnosing and treating critically ill patients.
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
