Specialist Technician – Audio Visual

About the role

The Specialist Technician – Audio Visual provides technical support for teaching staff, students and external users across the school’s performance venues. Working under the direction of the Principal, the role ensures that all audio‑visual resources are ready, safe and compliant for daily classes, productions and events.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to teachers and classes using TV/Radio studios, auditorium and music labs.
• Manage, maintain and catalogue all audio‑visual equipment including sound, lighting, projection, control desks and digital devices.
• Set up and operate AV resources for performances, examinations, recordings and co‑curricular activities.
• Arrange external maintenance and ensure timely, cost‑effective repairs.
• Coordinate with Health & Safety to meet regulatory requirements for technical aspects of events.
• Supervise or personally run AV components of school productions and support other departments as needed.
• Produce high‑quality video recordings, assist pupils with filming and post‑production editing.
• Support specialist instruction for students studying technical theatre and assist with rigging, lighting plots and set construction.

Required profile

• Willingness to undergo child protection screening and obtain the International Child Protection Certificate.
• Ability to work under the reasonable direction of school leadership.
• Flexibility to handle a variety of routine and event‑driven tasks.

Required skills

• Operation of audio‑visual equipment (sound systems, lighting rigs, projectors, control desks).
• Video recording and post‑production editing.
• Rigging, lighting plot creation and set construction.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting of digital AV devices.
