Accountant

About the role

Global Studies University, a non-profit higher education institution in Sharjah, UAE, is looking for an Accountant. The role maintains accurate financial records, manages accounting operations and supports financial reporting in line with internal policies and Sharjah Finance Department regulations, ensuring the integrity of financial data and supporting management decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in line with regulations and standards
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including review, verification and processing of payments
• Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
• Support budget monitoring and expenditure tracking against approved allocations
• Ensure proper documentation and compliance with Sharjah Finance Department requirements
• Coordinate with banks on payments, transfers and account matters
• Support asset registration, depreciation tracking and periodic asset verification
• Assist internal and external audits by providing financial information
• Ensure compliance with university financial policies, internal controls and UAE laws, and support continuous improvement of financial processes

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field, attested and recognised in the UAE
• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls and reporting
• Experience with governmental or semi-governmental financial frameworks preferred
• Postgraduate qualifications in Accounting or Finance are an advantage; professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, CMA or CIMA are strongly advantageous
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken); Arabic is an advantage

Required skills

• Experience with ERP and financial management systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle or SAP is preferred
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, work independently and communicate effectively in a multicultural environment
