AI Engineer Backend

About the role

The Backend Engineer, AI at Deel will accelerate development workflows using AI tools like Claude, delivering robust backend solutions at high speed while maintaining quality and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, design, frontend, and QA teams to define requirements and build seamless experiences.
• Leverage AI coding tools to generate code, handle boilerplate, and create scaffolding, reviewing all AI‑generated output before shipping.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, and iterate on new features, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
• Identify and fix bugs quickly, ensuring high‑quality standards throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Communicate technical constraints and solutions clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Backend or Software Engineer.
• Proven track record shipping AI‑enhanced products and handling production issues at scale.
• Strong remote collaboration skills and ability to work asynchronously in distributed teams.
• Commitment to Deel’s quality standards, code review, testing, and operational responsibilities.

Required skills

• NodeJS or Python development.
• SQL and NoSQL fundamentals, especially PostgreSQL.
• Experience with ORM libraries such as Sequelize or TypeORM.
• Proficiency using Claude or similar AI coding assistants.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and optimize database performance.
