Assistant Compliance Manager - Sanctions Unit

About the role

MashreqBank is hiring an Assistant Compliance Manager for its Sanctions Unit, reporting to the Compliance Manager. The role interprets domestic and international sanctions (UAE, US, UK, EU, UN and others) and reviews escalated sanctions alerts for potential violations of economic or trade sanctions or unacceptable activity.

Key responsibilities

• Review escalated sanctions cases end to end and ensure adherence to the Group Sanctions Policy, guidance and operating procedures.
• Support the Compliance Manager in identifying sanctions themes and trends and improving sanctions risk management.
• Investigate customer activity across business segments and portfolios to assess whether it falls within the bank's acceptable parameters.
• Document findings in the case management system and prepare monthly and ad hoc management reports.
• Handle sanctions referrals according to policy and refer to the Compliance Manager where required.
• Develop and maintain relevant policies and procedures, and recommend improvements.
• Keep unit records confidential and secure, following the record retention policy and SOPs.
• Work with Business, Operations and other Compliance functions and assist in compliance projects.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of banking experience, including 2 years in compliance.
• Risk professional with experience in one or more risk compliance roles, including sanctions experience.
• Experience in the financial services industry.
• Professional qualification such as ACAMS or CGSS is desirable.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of the bank's Compliance, Sanctions, AML and KYC/CDD policies and procedures.
• Understanding of sanction programmes such as OFAC, UN, UK, EU and UAE target financial sanctions.
• Good understanding of core banking systems and their use.
• Analytical thinking, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
