Assistant Manager - Technical Services (Natural Resources & Energy)

About the role

BDO UAE is seeking an Assistant Manager to join its growing Natural Resources & Energy (NRE) Risk Advisory practice. The role works with leading energy, utilities, mining and industrial organisations on risk advisory, internal audit, governance and operational excellence, and contributes to the adoption of AI, IoT, robotics and advanced analytics. It suits professionals who want to build deep sector expertise across upstream, midstream and downstream operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage internal audit, risk assessment, internal controls and advisory engagements across the NRE sector, covering exploration, drilling, production, refining, petrochemicals, power generation, utilities, mining, infrastructure and logistics.
• Evaluate governance, risk and control frameworks and assess operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, asset integrity and performance management.
• Deliver risk assessments, audit programmes, planning memoranda, executive reports and management presentations, and manage engagement timelines, budgets and quality standards.
• Build relationships with senior client stakeholders, support business development and proposals, and contribute to thought leadership and market positioning.
• Integrate AI, data analytics, IoT and robotics into engagements, monitor industry trends and regulatory developments, and help develop proprietary tools and frameworks.
• Coach and mentor junior team members, lead knowledge sharing, and take part in performance reviews and talent management.

Required profile

• 5-10 years of experience in Risk Advisory, Internal Audit, Internal Controls, Operational Risk or Consulting; experience in a leading consulting, advisory or energy organisation is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more NRE subsectors such as oil & gas, petrochemicals, power & utilities, renewable energy, mining and metals, or energy infrastructure.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (petroleum, mechanical, electrical, chemical, instrumentation, metallurgy or related); a Master's degree is advantageous.
• At least one professional certification such as CIA, ISO Lead Auditor, API or IMS.
• Ability to travel across the region and internationally, and excellent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Strong stakeholder management, project management and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; data analytics and visualization tools are an advantage.
• Preferred: experience with technology-enabled audits, AI, IoT, robotics or Industry 4.0, and ability to turn technical findings into business insights.
