Automation Engineer NPE - Middle East

About the role

GEA is looking for an Automation Engineer to cover the Middle East region. The role covers troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, commissioning and field service of GEA automation systems and related equipment, with extensive travel across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, remote support and repair of GEA automation systems and related equipment.
• Supervise and support installation and commissioning, including I/O testing, PLC software modifications, process optimization, product trials and CIP testing for liquid and powder processing applications.
• Execute commissioning, start-up, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and field service activities across the Middle East as required.
• Support automation upgrade and modernization projects by preparing technical proposals and assisting with installation and commissioning.
• Coordinate with external control panel and skid manufacturers for repairs, upgrades, modifications and new implementations.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, use the escalation process when needed, and manage customer claims and follow-up.
• Maintain service documentation such as service reports, maintenance records and customer visit reports.
• Advise customers on equipment performance, maintenance strategies, operational best practices and lifecycle management.
• Prepare spare parts lists and identify aftermarket opportunities such as spare parts, upgrades, modernization projects, digital solutions and service agreements.
• Support digitalization initiatives in automation, remote services and connectivity, and work with regional and global engineering teams.
• Travel extensively throughout the Middle East to support customers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, commissioning or field service engineering.
• Experience in food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical or process industries is preferred.
• Fluent English; additional regional languages are an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA systems, industrial communication networks and process control systems.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, control schematics and P&IDs.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, and excellent communication and customer-facing abilities.
